Frequently Asked Questions

Jagua Gel
Jagua is an organic dye sourced from the Genipa Americana fruit, which is native to the rainforests of Central and South America. This natural dye is capable of staining the skin, creating temporary tattoos that can last for up to two weeks. Its 100% natural composition has made Jagua increasingly popular as a body art material, often used alongside traditional henna by artists around the globe.
While Jagua imparts a dark blue/black colouration, traditional henna stains the skin in shades of red/brown. Jagua has a gel-like consistency, differing from the paste-like texture of henna. Historically, Jagua has been used by tribes in the Americas, whereas henna has deep roots in the cultural practices of the Middle East, Asia, and North Africa.
Jagua tattoos are formed through the oxidation of Genipa Americana extract when exposed to the atmosphere, resulting in a gradual darkening of the tattoo. It is recommended to keep the gel on for no less than 2.5 hours post-application. Although the initial stain may seem light, it deepens significantly within the first day.

Jagua gel may remain effective for up to one year when kept in frozen conditions.

To ensure your Jagua products retain their effectiveness, please adhere to the following storage recommendations.

Freezing Instructions

 - Store Jagua gel at -20 degrees Celsius for optimal preservation.

 - For short-term usage within 30 days, it is advised to freeze the products, although this is not strictly necessary.

 - Prior to freezing, expel any excess air from the packaging and seal it securely to avoid oxidation, which can activate the gel prematurely.

 - Note that improper storage and exposure to air can reduce the efficacy of Jagua's staining properties.

Thawing Process

 - Jagua gel can be frozen and thawed repeatedly with minimal loss of quality, provided it is frozen immediately after use to preserve its potency.

 - To reduce the need for frequent thawing, it may be practical to divide larger quantities into smaller containers.

 - The thawing duration varies depending on the amount; a 10ml tube typically thaws in about 30 minutes.

Temporalis Jagua gel is safe cosmetic products and can be applied directly on the skin. Our products comply with European Cosmetic Regulations.

As some people are allergic to natural products such as fruits and nuts, it can happen that people are also sensitive to Jagua. We do not recommend the use of Jagua gel for people with fruit-allergies, eczema, extremely sensitive skin and/or G6PD.

Also, be noted that its use is not recommended for pregnant women and children under 3 years old due to the presence of an essential oil.

To prevent allergic reactions or irritations, test Jagua on a small patch of skin before applying the tattoo. The tattoo can be drawn without a problem if you’re not experiencing any irritation within 15 – 120 minutes.

Yes, Temporalis Jagua gel is vegan. It contains only plant-based ingredients and is not tested on animals.
Tattoo creation and aftercare
  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Set up a clean and well-lit area to work in. Gather all necessary materials: jagua gel, application tools, stencil (if desired), gloves, and paper towels.

  2. Design Your Tattoo: Choose or create a design for your tattoo. You can draw it freehand or use a stencil for more precise outlines.

  3. Apply the Gel: Put on gloves to protect your hands. Use a tattoo needle or precision applicator to carefully apply the jagua gel onto your skin, following the outline of your design.

  4. Let it Dry: Allow the jagua gel to dry completely on your skin. This usually takes around 1 to 2 hours, depending on the thickness of the gel and the size of your tattoo.

  5. Remove the Excess: Once the gel is dry, gently wipe away any excess with a damp cloth or paper towel. Be careful not to smudge or smear the design.

  6. Wait for the Stain to Develop: After removing the excess gel, allow the tattoo to develop. The jagua stain will gradually darken over the next 24 hours, revealing the final design.

  7. Care for Your Tattoo: Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the tattoo during the development process. Keep it dry and avoid exposure to water for the first 24 hours to ensure a long-lasting result.

  8. Enjoy Your Temporary Tattoo: Once fully developed, your jagua tattoo will last for 1-2 weeks before gradually fading away. Show off your unique design and enjoy the temporary beauty of your jagua tattoo!

On average, the tattoos created with the jagua gel can last from 8 to 15 days, providing you with a fun and temporary body art experience.

To ensure your tattoo lasts for two weeks, follow these tips:

 - Avoid friction and scrubbing.

 - Be cautious while showering or swimming, gently pat the tattoo area dry.

 - Regularly moisturize.

 - Do not use exfoliating products on the tattoo.

 - Apply sunscreen to protect from UV rays.

 - Stay hydrated to keep your skin from drying out.

While Jagua tattoos naturally fade over time, they can be removed more quickly by gently exfoliating the area. Regular exfoliation will gradually lighten the tattoo, but stop if it causes discomfort.
